When blood glucose is chronically high, the excess is converted into storable fat. The recently discovered enzyme Glycerol 3 Phosphate Phosphatase (G3PP) provides an alternative path in which G3P is broken down into glycerol, which is safely excreted from the cell. 

G3PP drives sugar and fat breakdown and works as an energy overflow valve that enables the cells to get rid of excess sugars and fat, without leaving any harmful by-products behind.
